To quote a favourite movie of mine

Summer lovin had me a blast...
I am aware that this song is about a summer fling that turned into a relationship in a well-known musical turned movie; yet this quote is my view on this years summer vacation. No, I did not go anywhere exciting, unless you count my weekend in Port Hope antiquing. Oh, I went camping which was also a great time. I of course did the cottage thing, which was a BLAST! you just can't beat the pull on the tow rope as you maneuver the wakeboard! As you can tell from my blog, the highlight of this summer was VBS at my work/church. It went so well and I was overly blessed. This summer I also watched a lot of movies, way too many actually. I went out to see some movies too, the two best being Devil Wears Prada and Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest. I didn't do as much as I had hoped and I missed hanging out with people, but that is life. que sera sera.
I leave for my appartment on Friday morning around 5am, so tomorrow is my last day in beautiful Ontario for four months. Wish me luck.
Awesome thing has happened-gas prices are cheap! Annoyingly, I filled up at 95 cents on Monday, yet now it is down to at least 85 cents. I haven't seen that in a long time. I could write two whole entries on my views regarding gas prices and how it's fixed. But that's for another day, another dime.
So I wish you all a wonderful fall and for those in school-enjoy yourselves. Love y'all

Sing and Play Ole!

Here is the front part of the sanctuary-this is on the first day. I miss it already... Posted by Picasa

God's Spotlight

This is part of the backdrop I had at the front of the church. The other half looks identical to this but the sun came in at just the right angle-if you want to have it as a Biblical metaphor (totally NOT planned) there are three cacti...I'll let you figure the metaphor out! Posted by Picasa

God showed His love

Well God continued to amaze me this past week, for He took the vbs at the church and totally blessed it! We had an average of 45 which worked out so we could still play the big games but the groups were manageable (unlike last year's chaos!). This year was so organised and every day I left feeling confident and satisfied that God worked wonders that day. My volunteers did a super job, so awesome that I had time to just sit and watch everything. Friday was our water day so basically from 9:30-11 I was being hit by water balloons, drenched by hoses, and dumped on by buckets. The kids loved it and it was a ton of fun! Our mission project was a food drive and the kids loved watching the pyramid grow throughout the week. The songs were fun and we even got to sing some Spanish "Yo tengo un amigo qui me ama!" I am awed by kids every year on how much Jesus shows Himself through the children. Today at church Pastor Don thanked me on what I did at vbs-very nice of him! I just had a blast and i'll post pics soon! Love y'all!

VBS starts on Monday. I hope that I will have all the volunteers and supplies that I need. Oh, I need a craft idea for 52 kids. Hope your summers are amazing!

apology

I would just like to say I'm sorry if I offended anyone who owns a pair of crocs. My last post was not kind towards them and I apologise if it sounded rude. A good friend of mine owns a pair and it won't damage our friendship at all. Every person has their own style and who knows what the next fad will be. But whatever it is, I will try and be kinder towards it.

Disclaimer-this reporter's opinion only

I think people have decided their garden can be taken anywhere. Yet, most of the poeple have never planted in their lives; though they copy the gardener look in the footwear department. Croc shoes, supposedly one of the most comfortable shoes, look like one just stepped from digging in dirt and making sure the lawn was rid of weeds. In the garden, the shoes are comfortable and, because of their holes, breathable. However, once you have planted that last petunia, kick off your work shoes and put on your going out shoes. You wouldn't wear your rubber boots that you wore fishing to the mall, yet people are happily wearing these duckboot knock-offs. Why? The shoes are seen everywhere, on kids to seniors. On a 3 year old child, you can dismiss it as cute, but on an overweight, 65 year old woman these shoes are beyond comprehension.
Trends can be interesting but there is a difference between trends and fads. Fads are those things that are discussed by a group of friends who have nothing else to do so they talk about Pogs, devil sticks, spice girls, sequin shirts, and the Davinci Code. Trends last; you don't need to worry about sneezing and missing an entire fashion craze.
My hatred towards these shoes became apparent after two weekends in the Peterborough area. I have no hatred towards Peterborough itself and the people there, yet they are copying the horrid fad. I attended the farmers' market, and though I was there less than one hour, I saw at least 10 people wearing them. After I continued on to Port Hope, where I saw more than 25 pairs of crocs on all ages. Everywhere i look, there are the same shoes my mom wears whilst watering the flowers and other plants. I know that we all have our own style, but come on people, wear shoes that are MEANT to be worn in public, not shoes meant to be covered in mud.
